Bringing Up Kari

Bond of Love

This story is a bond of love between a boy and  a baby elephant. The name of an elephant was Kari. Kari was a five - month old baby elephant who lives and grows up with his nine - year old friend.an elephant. In this story narrator emphasizes the fact that though elephants seems too big but their hearts are soft and they also needs affection. They also learn things like human beings.

Good Friends

 Kari lived in a pavilion. It was under a thatched roof which rested on thick tree stumps. Kari bumped against the poles as he moved about the enclosure. Yet the poles didn’t give way. It was so because these poles were made of thick tree stumps. Kari and the author were good friends.Everyday he used to take Kari to the river in the morning for his bath. He would lie in the water for a long time. On coming out he would squeal with pleasure. After the bath, the author would leave him on the edge of the jungle. He would himself go into the forest to get some twigs for the elephant’s dinner. It took a long time. 

Life Saviour  Kari

One spring day in March , narrator heard a voice from some distance. The voice was more like that of a baby than an elephant.He thought somebody was hurting him, so he came down from the tree and ran very fast to the edge of the forest where he had left him.He looked everywhere but did not find him. He went near water and saw the trunk of Kari.He thought he was drowning. He was helpless as he could not lift such huge weight.Then Kari pushed him into the stream. It was to save the life of a boy. He saw a boy lying on the bottom of the river. He dived and pulled the body of the drowning boy to the surface. However, the author was not a swimmer. So he could not come ashore. The current began to drag him down. Kari saw it. He came fast into the water. The author caught his trunk. He pulled both the author and the boy to the shore and thus saved a boy from drowning. 

Playful and Sensitive

Kari was like a baby. Like a baby he had to be told when he was naughty. One day, somebody gave him bananas to eat and soon he developed a taste for bananas. He began to steal them. Large plates of fruit were kept on a table in the dining room, Kari would put his trunk through the window to the bananas. He would, then, quietly go to his pavilion. There he ate the bananas at peace without being seen. At last, the author caught him stealing. When he was scolded, he understood like a baby and did not steal again.He taught many things to Kari like when to sit sown,when to walk, when to go fast , and when to go slow. These commands were taught to him just as one teaches a child.

Master Call

 It is the most important signal which an elephant must know. It helps in saving the master’s life. When a master gets lost, they make a strange hissing sound and the trained elephant will pull out the tree in front which scares the other animals, including tigers, away. This way, he makes a path out of the forest and Kari learned this trick as well.

यह कहानी एक लड़के और एक बच्चे के हाथी के बीच प्यार का बंधन है। एक हाथी का नाम कारी था। कारी एक पाँच महीने का बच्चा हाथी था जो अपने नौ साल पुराने दोस्त के साथ रहता और बड़ा होता है। इस कहानी में कथाकार इस तथ्य पर जोर देता है कि हालांकि हाथी बहुत बड़े लगते हैं लेकिन उनके दिल नरम होते हैं और उन्हें भी स्नेह की आवश्यकता होती है। वे इंसानों जैसी चीजें भी सीखते हैं।

 अच्छे दोस्त कारी मंडप में रहता था। यह एक खपरैल की छत के नीचे था जो कि मोटे पेड़ों के ढेर पर आराम करता था। बाड़े के बारे में ले जाने पर कारी पोल से टकराया। फिर भी ध्रुवों ने रास्ता नहीं दिया। ऐसा इसलिए हुआ क्योंकि ये डंडे मोटे पेड़ के तने से बने थे। कारी और लेखक अच्छे दोस्त थे। प्रत्येक दिन वह सुबह स्नान के लिए कारी को नदी में ले जाता था। वह बहुत देर तक पानी में पड़ा रहता। बाहर आने पर वह खुशी से झूम उठता। नहाने के बाद लेखक उसे जंगल के किनारे छोड़ देता था। वह खुद हाथी के खाने के लिए कुछ टहनियाँ लेने के लिए जंगल में जाता था। इसमें बहुत समय लगा।

जीवन रक्षक कारी मार्च में एक वसंत दिवस, कथावाचक को कुछ दूर से एक आवाज सुनाई दी। आवाज एक हाथी की तुलना में बच्चे की तरह अधिक थी। उसने सोचा कि कोई उसे चोट पहुँचा रहा है, इसलिए वह पेड़ से उतर गया और बहुत तेजी से भाग कर जंगल के किनारे पर चला गया जहाँ उसने उसे छोड़ दिया था। उसने हर जगह देखा लेकिन नहीं मिला उसे। वह पानी के पास गया और कारी का धड़ देखा। उसे लगा कि वह डूब रहा है। वह असहाय था क्योंकि वह इतना बड़ा वजन नहीं उठा सकता था। तब कारी ने उसे धारा में धकेल दिया। यह एक लड़के की जान बचाना था। उसने नदी के तल पर एक लड़के को पड़ा देखा। उन्होंने डूबते हुए लड़के के शरीर को सतह पर खींचा और खींचा। हालाँकि, लेखक तैराक नहीं था। इसलिए वह आश्रय में नहीं आ सके। करंट उसे खींचने लगा। कारी ने देखा। वह तेजी से पानी में आ गया। लेखक ने उसकी सूंड पकड़ ली। उसने लेखक और लड़के दोनों को किनारे पर खींच लिया और इस तरह एक लड़के को डूबने से बचाया।

चंचल और संवेदनशील

कारी एक बच्चे की तरह था। एक बच्चे की तरह उसे शरारती होने पर बताया जाना था। एक दिन, किसी ने उसे खाने के लिए केले दिए और जल्द ही उसने केले के लिए एक स्वाद विकसित किया। वह उन्हें चुराने लगा। डाइनिंग रूम में एक मेज पर फलों की बड़ी-बड़ी प्लेटें रखी थीं, कारी खिड़की से केले तक अपनी सूंड लगाते। वह तब चुपचाप अपने मंडप में चला जाता। वहां उन्होंने बिना देखे ही शांति से केले खा लिए। अंत में, लेखक ने उसे चोरी करते हुए पकड़ा। जब उसे डांटा गया, तो वह एक बच्चे की तरह समझ गया और फिर से चोरी नहीं की। उसने कारी को कई चीजें सिखाईं जैसे कि कब बैठना है, कब चलना है, कब चलना है और कब जाना है। ये आज्ञाएँ उसे उसी तरह सिखाई जाती थीं जैसे कोई बच्चा सिखाता है। 

मास्टर कॉल

 यह सबसे महत्वपूर्ण संकेत है जो एक हाथी को पता होना चाहिए। यह मास्टर के जीवन को बचाने में मदद करता है। जब एक मास्टर खो जाता है, तो वे एक अजीब हिसिंग ध्वनि बनाते हैं और प्रशिक्षित हाथी सामने के पेड़ को बाहर निकाल देगा, जो बाघों सहित अन्य जानवरों को डराता है, दूर। इस तरह, वह जंगल से बाहर एक रास्ता बनाता है और कारी ने इस चाल को भी सीखा।
